My Own Experience
Well, I thought I had escaped the clutches of the scary DM but I guess I spoke too soon.
My district manager will be making an appearance this afternoon and I am freaking out.
I only saw him once in the entire year that I have worked for the company and I was successful in avoiding him. But I don't believe I shall be so lucky today.
I know all the techniques to go over so I don't sit here and overthink and catastrophize but sometimes I still struggle with it. Especially in a situation like this where I don't know what to expect from his visit. Right now, for instance, I am sitting here thinking about all the ways that I can mess up and make myself look bad.
Negative Thoughts:
1. If I mess up or answer a question wrong it will make me look like I don't know how to do my job and I'll be fired.
2. If I mess up, not only will I look bad but so will my manager.
3. If I mess up and make my manager look bad then SHE might lose her job and then it will be all my fault.
BUT, I'm going to try and throw all of those negative thoughts out and focus on some more positive ones.
Positive Thoughts:
1. I am good at my job so If I do poorly answering his questions it doesn't mean that I'm not still good at my job.
2. He might not even question me! (I surely hope not!)
3. I am strong and I will get through this. Going through this will make me a stronger person.
4. My manager went over some of the questions he might ask so I will be perfectly fine.
It's just like a regular day at work, only there will be another person hanging around. I know how to do my job and I won't let his presence intimidate me. Hopefully, I can remember all of these thoughts and stay positive and confident.
Side Note (totally unrelated):
This is a little off topic but I thought I would just let all of you guys, my readers, know that I like to share with you what I'm going through so that you don't feel alone. I share these things in hopes that you can relate to them in your own life and see that it's possible to move beyond your anxiety.
Now, there wasn't a whole lot of advice for you guys in this post but I want you to see that I am still struggling with my own anxiety and what I do to try to not let it control how I live and think. I feel that if I share how I use the techniques that I show you how to use then you will be more willing to try them and trust that they will work.
Anyways, I hope that you can conquer some task that is causing you great anxiety. I believe in you guys! Have a wonderful Tuesday!
